An Honor Roll was constructed to honor the men and women from Topanga serving in the various brances of the armed forces. It was erected by the newly organized Topanga American Legion Post no. 579. The sign was constructed out of redwood and tin. It measured 15 x 24 feet and was installed at Pine Tree Circle just north of the post office and general store. A permanent speakers platform was installed in front of the board to serve as an outdoor center for community affairs. It was later moved to the Harlan property when the Pine Tree Circle was sold. Boy Scouts and the Army Air Corps band from Santa Monica were a part of the celebration. The Post Office and General Store are visible off to the right in the image. The archive is of special interest to researchers, covering Elysium Fields, the Mermaid Tavern, the Theatricum Botanicum, and the Topanga Corral. Also documented is Topanga's art community and its colorful Beatnick and Hippie eras. Exhibited in the gallery is a permanent collection of historic photographs. Along with a variety of documents, an online preview is available on the Oviatt Library Digital Collections website.
